The Case of the Smelly Tub
Part of the RVA Journalist “BedandBreakfast” series
At work, we’ve discussed the perils of other inns — a horse dying while towing a carriage full of guests and catching a groom and the mother of the bride “swimming together” in a pool — but the case of the smelly tub was something we didn’t expect for our own lodge.
A couple was very displeased...

Richmond love letter
From Richmond.com
Richmond, I know we just met, but I’m feeling things I’ve never felt before.
Things I just have to say…
I’ve lived in other cities, but I’ve never met anyone like you.
You’re different, special, just downright more live-able than anywhere else I’ve ever been.
Richmond, I hope you don’t think I’m being too forward….but let me count the ways I think you’re just, well, just...
VCU responsible for Super Bowl commercial →
^Clickable
Apparently, former mass communications major at Virginia Commonwealth had a lead role in composing this year’s Super Bowl commercial with the dieting and exercising dog.
I don’t know about you guys, but that was my favorite commercial of the evening, and, by the sounds of it, it may have been a top choice of several others at The Republic that night.
What was you...

Senate Votes to Repeal Gun Purchase Limit
Bloggers, did you hear? Virginians soon may be able to purchase more guns than they can carry, all in one buy – for the first time in almost two decades. With the exception of law enforcement officials and some concealed-weapon permit holders, a 1993 state law has prohibited the purchase of more than one gun every 30 days. On Monday, the Senate passed a bill to revoke this law; the House had...

"Street art attached to Civil War Monuments" →
According to CBS6 News, about half of Richmond sees it as vandalism.
“Someone put up placards of famous slaves and civil rights pioneers on all the monuments on my street last night, and now there are groups of old white men holding confederate flags around them. My room mates and I are trying to put together a last-minute army of queers to go yell at them, so if you’re in RVA and...

Rams get revenge, 73-51
The VCU Rams defeated their crosstown rivals, the UR Spiders, in the “Black and Blue Classic” tonight, 73-51. “Last year they beat us at their place bad and we just wanted to get them back,” said VCU senior player Bradford Burgess. With this win VCU improved their record to 6-3 and came away with a 20+ point lead for their third time this season.
Ramnation is definitely...

For my Red Sox fans:
“Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington joined WEEI’s Mut & Merloni Show this morning and was asked about the future status of Jason and Tim Wakefield with the team:
‘I think those two guys in particular, given what they’ve meant to to the organization over a long period of time, they certainly deserve to hear from us and get honest and direct...

Dear followers,
I’d like to officially and formally apologize for the serious lack of “tumblring” as of recent, including the gradual decline some of you may have noticed over the past couple of months.
It is nearing the end of the semester, and as many of you probably know, we college kids could use some love both around midterms and this awful period of projects, re-writes and final exams.

Zombies, zombies, zombies!
With Kings Dominion, drive-in movies and Belle Isle, the River City isn’t too shabby of a place for the summertime, but, in my humble opinion, you’ve got to love it in the fall. The trees that line the streets of the Fan are extra vibrant in 2011 and that’s not to mention the State Fair, the zombie walk the RVA Zombie Film Festival hosted by the Byrd Theater.

msnbc: “A new climate study shows that since the mid-1950s, global average temperatures over land have risen by 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.6 degrees Fahrenheit), confirming previous studies that have found a climate that has been warming – in fits and starts – since around 1900.”

“As David Ortiz said, the beer, the chicken and the video games have always been there dating back to 2004, spanning two World Series title runs. Had the Red Sox won the World Series this year, and all of this nonsense leaked out, you would see fans wearing Chicken and Beer t-shirts. It would have been a rally cry, but here we are, distraught Red Sox fans looking for a scapegoat, so we...

Ellsbury named 'Comeback Player'
“In, literally, what has been the only good Red Sox-related news in over a month, MLB.com beat writers have voted Jacoby Ellsbury as the 2011 Comeback Player of the Year. Ellsbury’s 2010 season was cut to just 18 games when the outfielder collided with third baseman Adrian Beltre. The outfielder hit just .192 in 78 at-bats, going homerless on the season. This past season, Ellsbury...

The open windows allow a cool autumn breeze to dance through our grandparents’ house, Mom’s dad is working on the yard outside and Abuela tells us the Spanish names of the animals on the “Planet Earth” documentaries. Surprisingly, all of this makes for a pleasant and productive homework environment, unlike the excitement I have for our other weekend plans. So far, it has...

Bed AND Breakfast
Today was my second time serving a wedding party, but this time, it was just Mom, Dad, brother and bride. They haven’t lived in the same state for years, so they asked to rent out the entire bed and breakfast for the weekend, leading up to the wedding. That way, it could be like their own home.
For some reason, the family’s attitudes and behaviors made it feel like the pressure was...
